This Website Is Encouraging Schools To Engage In Black History Month.

SUMMARY:

• This article summarises how films created by students in Milton Keynes are being used on a website, to encourage schools to celebrate Black History Month. 

AUDIENCE APPEAL:

• There is a strong element of personal identity, as it highlights aspects of Black British culture. There is also an act of surveillance, as it brings awareness to the website and the successes of Black British citizens. There is also an appeal with the people involved, as they are celebrated Black people, and people will be interested in their thoughts, feelings and stories, similar to the appeal of opinion leaders.

COMMENT:

• I think that this article reflects The Voice's key values, and informs Black people and celebrates their culture- from a different perspective than perhaps mainstream media would. There is an aspect of authenticity, when reading the article and there is a clear lack of commodification within the language used or the purpose of the post, contrasting the questionable ethics of Teen Vogue and political issues.
